In Russia kasha historically is a meal prepared using any grain (buckwheat, oats, wheat, millet, barley, rice, etc) as a main ingredient. Plus you can mix in almost anything: meat, tvorog, milk, etc. You can get more info about kasha at: http://www.aboutkasha.com It has many traditional Russian recipes. Here is the example of recipe for kasha with millet from this web site:
Millet Kasha with Cottage Cheese (Tvorog)
Ingredients:
Millet (8oz)
Tvorog (8oz)
Water (20oz)
Butter (2oz)
Sugar (2oz)
Serves 4
Cooking Instructions
1. Rinse millet with boiling water
2. Combine millet with hot water (20oz)
3. Bring to a boil, add salt
4. Reduce a heat, simmer and stir occasionally removing foam if required
5. Cook until kasha is half ready (grains are chewy but crusty)
6. Add butter, sugar and Tvorog (cottage cheese). Mix well
7. Cook until ready
